두 마리의 개구리가 살고 있었습니다. 한 마리는 마차가 다니는 길가의 웅덩이에 살았습니다. 다른 한 마리는 길에서 멀리 떨어진 곳에 있는 깨끗한 연못에서 살았습니다.

 

어느 날 숲속의 연못에서 사는 개구리가 길가의 웅덩이에서 사는 개구리를 만나기 위해 찾아왔습니다. 연못에 사는 개구리는 웅덩이에 사는 개구리가 너무 힘들게 사는 것 같았습니다. 그래서 자기의 연못으로 가서 함께 살자고 말했습니다.

 

“여기는 길가라 너무 위험해. 게다가 수시로 마차가 지나 다니고 있어. 그러다가 마차에 치여 죽으면 어떻게 할 거야? 그리고 여기는 물도 조금밖에 없고 몹시 더러워서 병에 걸리기 딱 좋겠어.

자네는 왜 이런 곳에서 살고 있나? 내가사는 연못은 아주 깨끗하다네. 여기처럼 지나다니는 마차를 피해야 하는 걱정도 없다네.”

 

연못에서 사는 개꾸리는 웅덩이에서 사는 개구리를 진심으로 걱정하면서 자신과 함께 살 것을 권했습니다. 하지만 웅덩이에서 사는 개구리는 연못에서 사는 개구리를 쳐다보면서 이렇게 말했습니다.

 

“그렇다면 한번 생각해 보겠네.”

 

얼마후 연못에 사는 개구리는 집으로 돌아갔습니다. 연못에 사는 개구리는 며칠이 지난 후 웅덩이에 사는 개구리를 다시 찾아갔습니다.

 

“생각을 좀 해 보았나? 이렇게 위험한 곳에서 사는 것보다는 연못에서 사는 게 훨씬 낫지.”

 

그러나 웅덩이에 사는 개구리는 고개를 흔들면서 연못에 사는 개구리의 말을 들으려 하지 않았습니다.

 

“아니야. 아무래도 그냥 여기서 사는 게 좋겠어. 연못이 살기 좋다는 것은 나도 잘 알고 있어. 하지만 내가 너무나 잘 알고 있고, 항상 우리집이라고 부르던 고장을 떠나서 낯선 고장으로 이사를 간다는 게 너무 귀찮은 일인 것 같아.”

 

“아니, 이 사람아. 귀찮다고 해서 이렇게 위험한 곳에서 살겠다는 거야? 살기 좋은 연못이 가까운 곳에 있는데?”

 

“그래.”

웅덩이에서 사는 개구리는 귀찮아하며 친구의 말을 들으려고 하지 않았습니다. 연못에 사는 개구리는 어쩔 수 없이 자신이 사는 연못으로 돌아갔습니다.

 

얼마 후 웅덩이에 사는 개구리는 결국 마차의 수레바퀴에 깔려 죽고 말았습니다.

You don’t have to worry about avoiding passing carriages like here.”

The pond frog sincerely worried about the puddle frog and suggested living together. But the puddle frog looked at the pond frog and said,

“Well, I’ll think about it.”

After a while, the pond frog returned home. A few days later, it revisited the puddle frog.

“Have you thought about it? Living in the pond is much better than in this dangerous place.”

However, the puddle frog shook its head and didn’t want to listen to the pond frog.

“No, I think it’s better just to live here. I know well that the pond is a good place to live. But it’s too bothersome to leave the place I know so well and have always called home and move to an unfamiliar place.”

“Oh, come on. Are you saying you’ll live in this dangerous place because it’s bothersome? There’s a good pond nearby!”

“Yes.” The puddle frog, feeling bothered, didn’t want to listen to its friend’s words. The pond frog had no choice but to return to its pond.

A while later, the puddle frog eventually got run over by a carriage wheel and died.
