다랑어와 돌고래

 

몹시 사이가 나쁜 돌고래와 다랑어가 있었습니다. 그러던 어느 날 다랑어는 우연히 돌고래와 마주치게 되었습니다. 돌고래가 자기를 실어한다는 사실을 잘 알고 있던 다랑어는 돌고래와 마주치자 재빨리 달아나기 시작했습니다.

 

다랑어는 돌고래에게 잡히지 않기 위해 있는 힘을 다해 달아났습니다. 돌고래는 물살을 가르면서 다랑어를 따라갓습니다.

 

“야, 거기 서!”

 

돌고래가 다랑어를 향애 소리쳤습니다.

 

“내가 멈추면 너는 그 단단한 머리로 내 허리를 들이받을 거잖아!”

 

다랑어는 물을 튀기면 물살을 가르고 달아나면서 대다했습니다. 돌고래는 다랑어를 따라잡기 위해 무서운 기세로 쫓아갔습니다.

 

드디어 돌고래가 거의 다랑어를 잡을 만큼 가까이 다가갔습니다. 다랑어는 돌고래에게 잡히기 싫어서 죽음을 무릅쓰고 몸을 날려서 해변의 모래밭 위로 올라갔습니다.

 

다랑어를 뒤쫓던 돌고래도 앞뒤 생각없이 몸을 날렸습니다. 결국 돌고래도 역시 모래밭 위로 올라가서 다랑어 옆에 털썩 떨어지고 말았습니다.

 

돌고래와 다랑어는 나란히 모래밭에 드러눕게 되었습니다. 다랑어와 돌고래는 모두 모래밭에서 꼼짝도 하지 못하고 죽게 생겼습니다.

 

다랑어는 숨을 헐떡이면서 이렇게 말했습니다.

 

“이제 난 더 이상 죽음을 두려워하지 않아. 나를 죽음으로 몰아넣은 네 녀석과 같은 운명을 맞이하게 되었으니까 말이야!”

 

다랑어와 돌고래는 서로 다투다가 모래밭 위에서 바다로 돌아가지 못한 채 죽음을 맞이하고 말았습니다. 다랑어와 돌고래처럼 무모하게 싸움을 벌이다가는 서로가 큰 피해를 입게 됩니다.

다랑어는 무엇 때문에 자기가 죽을 줄 알면서도 해변의 모래밭 위로 올라갔을까요?

The Tuna and the Dolphin

A tuna and a dolphin were very hostile towards each other. One day, the tuna happened to encounter the dolphin. Knowing that the dolphin disliked him, the tuna quickly started to flee.

The tuna swam with all its might to avoid being caught by the dolphin, which chased it through the water.

“Hey, stop there!” the dolphin shouted at the tuna.

“If I stop, you’ll ram your hard head into my side!” the tuna replied as it splashed through the water, fleeing from the dolphin.

The dolphin chased the tuna with fierce determination.

Finally, the dolphin got close enough almost to catch the tuna. Desperate to avoid being caught, the tuna risked its life and leaped onto the sandy shore.

The dolphin also leaped onto the shore without thinking. The dolphin and the tuna ended up lying on the sand, unable to move and facing death.

Gasping for breath, the tuna said,

“I’m no longer afraid of death. Now that you, who drove me to death, are facing the same fate!”

The tuna and the dolphin, fighting recklessly, ended up dying on the shore, unable to return to the sea. Like the tuna and the dolphin, engaging in reckless fights can significantly harm both parties.
