가족에게 더 소홀한 우리

 

양떼를 몰고 숲으로 들어간 양치기가 우연히 도토리가 많이 달린 떡갈나무를 발견했어. 양치기는 벙글벙글 웃으면서 좋아했지.

“이거, 신나는 걸. 도토리가 정말 많이 달렸구나. 겨울 동안 양들을 먹이고도 남겠어. 얼른 도토리를 따야지.”

양치기는 떨어지는 도토리를 받기 위해 입고 있던 자신의 망토를 떡갈나무 밑에 펼쳐 놓았지. 그리고 떡갈나무 위로 올라가 나뭇가지를 마구 흔들었어. 나뭇가지가 흔들리자 알맞게 익은 도토리들이 우수수 떨어졌지.

근처에서 풀을 뜯어먹고 있던 양들이 그 소리를 듣고 떡갈 나무 밑으로 몰려와, 맛있는 도토리를 주워먹기 시작했지, 그러다 그만 양치기가 깔아놓은 망토까지 조각조각 찢어 버렸지 뭐야. 하지만 나무 위로 올라간 양치기는 울창한 떡갈나무 잎이 시야를 가려서 그런 사정을 조금도 알지 못했지.

잠시 후 도토리를 주워담기 위해 나무에서 내려온 양치기는 무슨 일이 벌어졌는지 알게 되었고, 찢어진 망토를 보면서 큰 소리로 나무랐지.

“나쁜 놈들아! 다른 사람들에게는 털옷을 입게 해 주면서 너희들을 먹여 키우는 나한테 해주는 것은 고작 망토를 못쓰게 만드는 거냐!”

 

양치기는 양들을 먹이기 위해 도토리를 따려고 했지만 양들은 주인의 망토를 찢어놓고 말았지. 철없는 양들처럼 자신과 가까운 소중한 사람에게는 소홀하면서, 자신과 상관도 없는 사람에게는 몹시 친절한 우리 모습이야.

 

Being Neglectful of Our Family

 

A shepherd was herding a flock of sheep into the forest when he stumbled upon an oak tree laden with acorns. The shepherd’s eyes lit up with delight.

“Wow, this is exciting! So many acorns! With these, I can feed the sheep throughout the winter and still have some left over. Let’s start gathering them.”

The shepherd spread his cloak on the ground beneath the oak tree to catch the falling acorns. He climbed up the tree and vigorously shook the branches. Ripe acorns rained down, filling his cloak.

Meanwhile, some nearby sheep were grazing on grass. They heard the rustling sound and gathered around the oak tree. They began picking up and munching on the delicious acorns. In the process, they accidentally tore the shepherd’s cloak into pieces. Oblivious to this, the shepherd continued shaking the branches, shielded by the thick foliage.

After a while, the shepherd climbed down from the tree to collect the acorns. To his surprise, he found his torn cloak. Furious, he shouted at the sheep.

“You ungrateful creatures! While I provide warm woolen coats to others, you repay me by destroying my cloak?”

The shepherd had intended to gather acorns for the sheep’s food, but they had carelessly ruined his cloak. It was a stark contrast: neglecting those close to him while showing excessive kindness to those who mattered little.
