 자연의 이치

 

당나귀와 노새가 무거운 짐을 지고 길을 가고 있었어. 평소에 노새 힘이 약한 당나귀는 노새와 같은 무게의 짐을 지고 가는 것에 대해 불평을 했어. 당나귀는 노새가 자기보다 두 배는 더 무거운 짐을 질 수 있을 만큼 기운이 세다고 생각했기 때문이야.

 

당나귀는 주인을 쳐다보며 말했어

“주인님, 노새는 저보다 힘이 세니까 더 많은 짐을 짊어져야 하지 않겠나요?”

주인은 고개를 끄덕이며 대답했어

“좋아, 네 짐을 노새에게 조금 옮겨 싣도록 하지.”

주인은 당나귀가 지고 있던 짐의 일부를 덜어서 노새에게 실었어. 그러나 노새는 아무런 불평도 없이 묵묵히 걸어 갔어.

한참동안 걸어가다 당나귀는 몹시 지친 듯이 숨을 헐떡거렸어. 이것을 본 주인은 당나귀가 지쳤다고 생각하고는 다시 당나귀의 짐을 덜어 노새의 등에 옮겼지. 그래도 노새는 아루런 불평도 하지 않았어.

마친내 당나귀와 노새는 목적지에 도착하게 되었고, 주인은 당나귀와 노새에게 맛있는 먹이를 주었지

그런데 주인은 노새에게 당나귀보다 두 배나 많은 먹이를 주었지. 당나귀는 화가 나 투덜거렸지.

“이건 공평하지 못해. 왜 나귀에게 두 배나 많은 먹이를 주는 거야?”

그러자 노새가 당나귀를 흘끗 쳐다보며 말했지.

“이봐, 친구. 내가 자네보다 두 배나 많은 일을 하니 두배를 더 먹는 게 공평하지 않겠어?”

 

지금 옆 사람이 좀더 쉽게 얻는게 많다 하더라도 내가 지금 열심히 노력하면 세상은 보당해주게 되어 있습니다. 항상 최선을 다 하십시요. 그게 세상의 이치 입니다.

The Nature of Things

A donkey and a horse were traveling together, carrying heavy loads. The donkey, who was usually weaker than the horse, complained about having to carry the same weight as the horse. The donkey believed that the horse had twice the strength to bear a heavier burden.

The donkey looked at their owner and said, “Master, shouldn’t the horse carry more weight since it’s stronger than me?”

The owner nodded and replied, “Alright, let’s transfer some of your load to the horse.”

The owner removed part of the donkey’s burden and placed it on the horse without any complaints from the latter. They continued walking silently for a long time.

Eventually, the donkey became exhausted, gasping for breath. Seeing this, the owner assumed the donkey was tired and shifted some of its load back to the horse. Still, the horse remained silent, without any complaints.

Finally, the donkey and the horse reached their destination, and the owner rewarded them with delicious food. However, the owner gave the horse twice as much food as the donkey. The donkey was upset and grumbled, “This isn’t fair. Why does the horse get twice as much food?”

In response, the horse glanced at the donkey and said, “Listen, my friend. If I do twice as much work as you, isn’t it fair that I eat twice as much?”
