농부와 개

 

어느 마을에 가축을 키우는 농부가 살고 있었습니다. 농부의 농장은 마을과 멀리 떨어진 외딴 곳에 있어서 사람의 왕래가 별로 없는 곳이었습니다.

 

그러던 어느 날이었습니다. 아침부터 먹구름이 몰려오더니 하루 종일 큰 비가 내리는 것이었습니다. 비는 그칠 줄을 모르고 며칠 동안이나 계속 내렸습니다.

 

사나운 폭풍우로 인해 큰 홍수가 났습니다. 계곡의 물이 불어나고 강물이 흘러넘쳤습니다. 농부는 오도가도 못하고 농장에 갇히는 신세가 되고 말았습니다.

 

비가 계속 내려서 마을로 내려갈 수 없었던 농부의 농장에는 양식마저도 바닥이 드러나고 말았습니다. 농부는 걱정스러운 얼굴로 중얼거렸습니다.

 

“큰일났구나. 가족들이 굶고 있는데 다른 곳에서 양식을 구해 올 수도 없으니...”

 

양식이 모두 떨어진 농부는 어떻게 먹고 살아야 할지 막막했습니다. 비는 여전히 그칠 줄을 물랐습니다.

 

농부는 양을 잡아 먹고 며칠 동안을 견딜 수 있었습니다. 그러나 날씨는 좋아질 기미가 보이지 않았습니다. 농부는 어쩔 수 없이 염소를 잡아 가족들과 먹었습니다.

 

며칠 후에는 황소마저 농장 식구들의 식량이 되고 말았습니다. 그것을 본 개들은 자신들의 목숨을 걱정하지 않을 수 없게 되었습니다. 농장의 개들은 서로 머리를 맞대고 의논 했습니다.

 

“우리는 아무래도 이곳에서 도망치는 것이 좋겠어. 주인 나리가 자신과 함께 일해 온 황소마저 잡아목었다면 그 다음에는 분명히 우리 차례가 될 테니까 말이야!”

 

개들은 주인이 농장의 다른 가축들을 잡아먹는 것을 보고 다음에는 자신의 차례가 될 것이라는 사실을 깨달았습니다. 그래서 멀리 달아나기로 결정했습니다. 개들은 다른 가축들의 경우를 보고 자신들의 미래를 예측할 수 있었습니다.

 

농부는 어째서 농장의 가축들을 하나씩 잡아먹을 수밖에 없었을까요?

 

개들은 농장에서 달아나는 것이 좋겠다고 생각했습니다. 그 이유는 무엇일까요?

 

우리 나라의 고사성어 가운데 “타산지석’ 비록 다른 산(他山)의(之) 돌(石)이라는 뜻인데 비록 다른 산에서 나는 거칠고 나쁜 돌이라도 숫돌로 쓰면 자신의 옥을 갈 수가 있으므로, 다른 사람의 하찮은 언행이라도 자신의 지혜와 덕을 닦는 데 도움이 됨을 비유해 이르는 말이다.

A farmer raised livestock in a village. The farmer’s farm was located in a remote area far from the town, with little human traffic.

One day, dark clouds gathered in the morning, and it rained heavily all day. The rain showed no signs of stopping and continued for several days.

Due to the fierce storm, a great flood occurred. The valley’s water swelled, and the river overflowed. The farmer was trapped on his farm, unable to go anywhere.

As the rain continued, the farmer’s farm, which couldn’t go down to the village, ran out of food. The farmer muttered with a worried face.

“This is a big problem. My family is starving, and I can’t get food anywhere else…”

With all the food gone, the farmer was at a loss for survival. The rain still showed no signs of stopping.

The farmer managed to survive for a few days by eating sheep. However, the weather showed no signs of improving, so the farmer had no choice but to catch and eat goats with his family.

A few days later, even the ox became food for the farm’s inhabitants. Seeing this, the dogs couldn’t help but worry about their lives. The farm’s dogs gathered and discussed.

“We’d better run away from here. If the master has caught and eaten the ox that worked with him, we will surely be next!”

The dogs realized they would be next after seeing the farmer catch and eat the other livestock. So they decided to run far away. The dogs could predict their future by observing the fate of the other livestock.

As the rain continued, the Lookout ran out of food. Ryder looked worried and said, “This is a big problem. The pups are hungry, and we can’t get food anywhere else…”

A few days later, even the special treats were gone. Seeing this, the pups couldn’t help but worry about their situation. The Paw Patrol pups gathered and discussed.

“We’d better find a way to get more food. If Ryder has used all the supplies, we must devise a plan!”

After seeing the situation, the pups realized they needed to take action. So, they decided to work together to find a solution. By observing the current situation, the pups could predict their future.
